Highlights of Dr. Mikdashi's career and accomplishments.

Dr. Ghazi Mikdashi was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1941. He graduated from Belgium (University of Liege) with a a degree in Architecture in 1969. In 1993 he received the Doctorate of Philosophy from the Lebanese University in Beirut. He taught in the Institute of Fine Arts (Lebanese University) from 1974 to 1990. After studying piano in the College of Art in Beirut a continued his musical education in Belgium where he finished a degree in Classical music performance (playing the piano) during the period from 1963 to 1965.

He has designed many educational, residential, and commercial building projects in Lebanon as well as other Arab countries. You can find complete portfolio of Dr. Mikdashi in the "Architecture" link to the left. Some of his projects are:

 

§         2002 “Development of the Sea Front of Muscat”, 2800000 m2, Oman 2002, in collaboration with AS&P, a German company (planning, architecture), and "CONSER", a Lebanese company, (transportation); selected as first project in an international competition. 

§         1999  Designed “Serenada Hotel”, Beirut, Hamra area (4 starts), 7500 m2 

§         1998 “Abou Bakker El-Seddik Mosque and School,” restoration of existing old buildings, Beirut 

§         1996 "Development of the Sea Front of Old and New Saida", 500000 m2, Saida, Lebanon, in collaboration with "Weidleplan", a German company (planning, architecture) and "Team International" a Lebanese company; selected as one of the best two entries in an international competition.

§         1996 “Commercial Center, Airport Road,” Supermarket and Administrative Building, 18000 m2 , Beirut, 1996 (winner of a competition) 

§         1995 “Islamic Cultural Center ”, museum, conference palace and theater, 31000 m2, Beirut 

§         1983 “Center for Development of Mentally Handicapped Persons”, 20000 m2, South of Beirut 

§         1978 “Officer Club” , 10000 m2 , Al-Ain, U.A.E.; won first prize in an international competition, designed for Architecture Office “Khatib and Alami”

 

Dr. Mikdashi's career is rich in musical compositions and play production as well. He composed classical pieces that performed by the University Orchestra in Liege, Belgium in 1965. The "Quartets" produced in 1974 in Beirut are creative melodies played by four instruments: cello, oud, flute and dirbaka. He also made music for the theater in Beirut from 1970-1976.

During the early years of civil war in Lebanon (1975-1976), he founded the "Popular Chorus" (Al-Kawras Al-Shaabi). The Chorus performed songs composed and written by Dr. Mikdashi such as Yahkouna Fi Biladina, Sajjil Ana Arabi, and La Tanami Habibati. Later he established Al-Sanabil GroupÓ that enchanted our children's ears with songs and muscial plays such as "Badna Al-ShamsÓ", "Firas Wal Doulab Al-FasihÓ", and "Habbat Al-RoummanÓ". Moreoever, Dr. G. Mikdashi wrote  "Wahdat Al Fonoun Al Islamiyyah": Unity of the Islamic Arts (1995), a published work of extensive research of Islamic architecture, music and calligraphy done over several years in many Islamic cities. A more recent publication (2006) is a fiction story of a young boy's adventures in historical Islamic cities, a book called : Baderban and the Gates of the Cities of Time: The Struggle with the virus of the Dark Glove". you can find a copy of this creative book at : www.asp.com.lb or www.neelwafurat.com.

 

His designs stand out form the crowd in that the final project bestows a sense of uniqueness that originates from a modern composition of traditional elements and ideas.

He continues to produce music and stories for our children that never deviate from originality, adventure, melody, tradition, and lightness, all in a modern setting that always bestow a message of hope and possibility for our new generation.
